Since we’ve used them on a daily basis this gave us plenty of time to get a good measure of both their pros and cons.
Below are the top 5 best cordless beard trimmers.
Top Rated Cordless Beard Trimmers
Chances are you may already have a product that is made by Philips. Specialising in all sorts of quality of life enhancing products, Philips is spread worldwide and they make all kinds of professional and home use products. They are very well known for their quality made hair grooming devices so we’ve had the pleasure of testing their 3100 series Norelco Multigroom hair and beard clipper.
With its sleek and all black futuristic looking body this certainly is one of the prettiest clippers that we’ve used. It is long and oblique so it was made to be ergonomic and we can say that it fits very well in the hand. This model is completely waterproof so it can also be used under the shower too.
Included in the package are five attachments for styling and trimming purposes. These accessories include a full-size trimmer, detail trimmer, nose trimmer and a moustache and beard trimmer attachment too. There is also a stubble comb included in the grooming kit. The blades are self-sharpening and made out of a precise ground steel and Philips guarantees long endurance and the same performance just like on the first day you started using this kit.
During our testing, we found that this claim was true and there were no signs of blade sharpness deterioration after extended use on various types of hair. The main blade head is a bit narrower than we would have liked although it doesn’t hinder the overall clean cutting and trimming performance. It got the job done in one pass, every single time. With a whopping 18 different length settings, anyone will find this trimmer great for their styling needs. A reliable and a great performing machine.
We liked the good grip of the device and the motor was strong enough to cut clean any type and thickness of hair we needed grooming. The battery autonomy is decent and at around 35 minutes per charge, it will satisfy the needs of even the most demanding users. The charging takes around 10 hours to fully restore the Ni-MH battery to full capacity.
We do not like that it takes that much to replenish to full capacity but perhaps it is because it was meant to be used and afterwards left to stay charging. This was our usage scenario. What is also not so nice is that the on/off switch is really slippery due to the smooth texture finish so if your fingers are wet you won’t be able to switch it properly without multiple tries.
On the plus side – maintenance is easy too as the trimmer is completely waterproof it can be simply washed after each use. We have to warn users not to use the device while it is plugged in and charging!
We were pleasantly surprised with the Philips Series 3100 trimmer overall. The first cordless device on our test left a strong impression and also left us wondering how can the competitors do better than this. This model is currently priced at less than 20 US dollars and with a great feature set, this certainly makes it a Product of Our Choice.
It completely surpassed our expectation based on the low asking price and truthfully we were not expecting such rich feature set and all the useful accessories that came with it. This is an outstanding product with absolutely no competition at this price. Highly recommended.
- Nice quality
- Great performance
- 5 different styling attachments included
- Completely waterproof
- Good battery autonomy
- Works on 110 V – 240 V power outlets
- Comes with self-sharpening blades
- Noisy during operation
- Slow battery charging
We tested Remington’s bestseller in the cordless trimmer range, the model PG6025. We already tested several corded models from this well-known brand so we were curious if their most wanted cordless product will meet our expectations. It certainly has plenty to offer as the grooming kit comes with all kinds of goodies that put a smile on our faces from the first moment when we started the unboxing. We have to say that we already saw the product pictures, however, the trimmer looks even better in person. So do the functions match the good looks? Let’s find out.
We have to commend Remington for designing and making one of the nicest looking hair trimmers we’ve encountered in our testing. You really have to see it in person to fully appreciate how good this thing looks. That LED charge level indicator looks very nice on the unit and makes it look like it’s from the future. The trimmer itself is compact in size and feels great in the hand. There are recesses on each side which make great grip areas and ease the handling during trimming sessions.
The whole kit is generous when it comes to accessories and there are 8 included attachments and even a small storage bag for carrying the device and the accessories with you. The attachments are full-size trimmer, foil shaver, nose, ear and detail trimmer and a hair clipper comb. The comb also comes with 8 different length settings and those allow adjustments in 2 mm increments.
The lowest length available is 2 mm and it can be adjusted for up to 16 mm of length. Also included are three beard and stubble combs. The steel blades on this beard trimmer are made of surgical steel and they are of the self-sharpening kind which guarantees longer endurance and more durability. This is one the best feature rich package currently available. We were pleasantly surprised how many goodies you can get for around 20 US dollar price tag.
Remington did well when deciding to ditch the cord on the PG6025 model. The included battery allowed us to use it for up to 60 minutes. Most of the users will rarely drain their unit during brief hair trimming or styling sessions. The use of lithium-ion battery allows for such long running times. It takes around 4 hours get the battery back to the 100 percent level. The trimmer head is full-size so it covers a good amount of skin surface area. The motor is powerful enough to drive the blades for nice and even cuts and trim and this allows some quick styling and trimming.
Based on our experience there will be some need for multiple passes with this trimmer if your beard is thicker and denser in some areas. It seems the motor struggles when it comes to trimming stubble area too. Also for those of you who want a near skin trimming, we must warn you that the stainless-steel head gets too warm and it will irritate your skin.
This Remington model presents a decent choice for those who are looking to buy a cordless model with a good feature set and a great battery endurance. The included 2-year warranty from the manufacturer sweetens the deal and makes this a very tempting hair grooming kit.
- Great looks and a quality casing
- Lightweight with great ergonomics
- Comes with plenty of accessories included
- Self-sharpening stainless-steel blades
- Works on 110 V – 240 V power sources
- Great battery life with fast charging time
- Blade head gets hot during longer use
This Japanese designed product comes with plenty of features and not that many accessories at a higher asking price. Panasonic ER-GB40- S no. 19 takes an innovative and simple approach to the cordless beard trimmer concept. Intended to make trimming and styling as easy as possible it comes with some unusual features not often seen on any other competitor models.
The first thing that we noticed is the shiny metallic finish combined with blue colour accents all around the body of the device. When it comes to ergonomics, Panasonic thought about everything that will make this trimmer feel good in the hand. The wide body around the steel cutting blades narrows down to a slimmer rubber lower part that makes for great grip and perfect handling during usage. One of the recognisable features of Panasonic hair trimmers is also present here. The 45-degree stainless steel trimming blades are there to provide a precise and optimal edge for a perfect cut or trim.
The standout feature certainly is the quick adjustment dial located just above the handle. It offers easy adjustments to the trimming lengths with a whopping 19 settings that are available. With them, you can set the trimming to a minimum length of 1 mm and up to 10 mm of maximum length. This will ensure precise and near skin clean grooming.
The total waterproofing enables this model to be used in both dry and wet conditions. We’ve used it under the shower and even sprayed jets of warm water on the unit while it was working and there were no signs of malfunction at all. Panasonic claims it is completely water submersible so we just had to check on that too. The great thing about its water drain feature is that it allows easy maintenance with a simple wash after you’re done trimming your facial hear.
It is very quiet during operation. The battery life is great and it offered up to 50 minutes of continues use which is more than anyone will realistically need in real-world conditions. When your battery gets low simply pop the trimmer into the charging dock and let it replenish its battery.
The unit performed average during our trimming and styling sessions. What we disliked is the fact that the motor seems to struggle with areas of skin where hair concentration is dense. We needed multiple passes to get a perfect trim so this left us a bit disappointed with the performance of the unit. This also explains the low noise coming from it.
We didn’t like that either as we never knew when the battery was completely full. There is only one red LED light which always glows red and that’s it. What we later discovered was that charging times are shockingly long. It can take more than 15 and up to 20 plus hours to get the unit fully recharged. So far plenty of downsides on this otherwise great for wet and dry wash beard trimmer.
This is a unique cordless trimmer from Panasonic that incorporates some cool features with some not so great functions. We liked the waterproofing and integrated trimmer adjustment dial. We would have liked a stronger performing motor even if it would mean a bit noisier operation. The battery charging times are pretty terrible too. In the end, we find it really difficult to recommend this product at around 50 US dollar asking price.
- Great build quality and ergonomics
- Extremely sharp blades angled at 45 degrees
- Simple and effective 19-position trimming adjustment
- Completely waterproof
- Good battery endurance
- Quiet during use
- Easy maintenance
- Low power motor
- Extremely long recharging times
- Works only on 110 V power outlets
There is another innovative cordless trimmer on our test and this one is also made by Philips. The model no. BT7215/49 comes with a couple of nice tricks up its sleeve and we were tempted by its feature set so we took it for a test run. We wanted to see if our previous excellent experience with the cheaper Philips made clippers will be repeated with this more expensive premium model.
The device looks stunning and Philips made one of the best looking cordless trimmers on the market. We like the silver and black finish and especially appreciated the enhanced ergonomics from its well-designed shape. It is very light and easy to handle thanks to the great design. There is a small display where you can adjust the settings with a “zoom wheel” placed just underneath it.
This grooming kit introduces a unique vacuum system which sucks in almost all the hair during trimming sessions. Philips claims that it catches up to 90 percent of cut hair during operation thanks to an integrated high-speed motor and a fan. This system uses the powerful vacuum to straighten and rise up the individual hairs for a cleaner and an effective cut. We confirm that this great feature does work as advertised. It gives a cool factor to our grooming session too and not to mention how the mess factor dropped drastically. It transformed regular maintenance from a chore into a pleasure, to be honest.
Two precision combs (3 mm and 5 mm), one beard comb and a detail trimmer come included in the package. For maintenance, there is a cleaning brush included too. There are 20 length settings to choose from and when it comes to trim, users can go as low as 0.5 mm and up to a maximum of 10 mm of hair length that can be adjusted in 0.5 mm incremental steps.
The motor is powerful enough to provide a one-pass clean cut and we found that it mowed down any type or thickness of hair in its path. The precision trimmer is great for enhanced styling and beard shaping. This model is especially useful as a stubble trimmer. We were pleasantly surprised how quiet this device is in operation since it has two motors running at the same time.
Battery autonomy is class-leading and we were able to get 90 minutes of usage before the device powers down. Very impressive. The included quick charger replenished the battery to full capacity in around an hour. This gave us the impression that we were actually using a device with the practicality of a corded model.
We didn’t like that the blade head holders are made out of a very thin plastic that seems like it will snap eventually. We can see how this can be a major problem to those who would remove the blade head often. We feel that the price is a bit high given how the included vacuum feature may not be on everyone’s priority list.
This is another standout grooming product coming from Philips. If you don’t mind the higher price this certainly is a top-quality vacuum trimmer with plenty of useful features and a great design. This is the most expensive cordless trimmer on our test, however, we feel this price is justified with the quality of this outstanding quality product.
- Great design and ergonomics
- Integrated vacuum system
- 20 adjustable trim settings
- Self-sharpening blades
- Sensitive skin friendly
- Impressive battery autonomy and quick recharge times
- Very quiet during operation
- The plastic holders for the blade head seem fragile
We tested one of the most sought after cordless trimmer models manufactured by Wahl company. It is currently one of the bestselling grooming devices on the market. We just had to see for ourselves why that is so. The Wahl model no. 9918-6171 can be found at an attractive price of around 25 USD and it comes with many attachments included in the package.
Those many attachments we’ve mentioned include a stubble guide, medium – 1/8 inch, full-guide – 3/16 inch and a 6-position adjustable guide comb. Wahl even included a useful carry zip-up bag too. We have to point out that the attachment holders seem very fragile and do not instil too much confidence. We didn’t manage to break them during frequent swaps however we would advise users to handle them with care. The included 3-year limited warranty gives a certain peace of mind for the durability of the included parts and accessories.
We are very pleased with its decent build quality and find the matte steel finish paint on the plastic body quite appealing and professional looking. Ergonomics are excellent thanks to fluid curves design which allows easy and a firm grip during use. The rubber for the grip feels great in the hand and prevents any accidental slips.
When it comes to cordless operation, Wahl promises up to 2 months of time between recharging. During our testing, we had no need for additional recharging after the initial first one so their claim seems to be correct. We assume that the charging time can be a bit longer since the unit offers such a good battery autonomy. We also find no reason to worry about the battery charge level since this model can operate as a corded trimmer as well. This is a big plus compared to other models we tested that have to be left to charge on a cradle.
A standout feature of this model certainly is its dual mode function enabling both cordless and corded operation. It can be used freely using only battery power and can also work as a corded trimmer while it is recharging.
The first thing we noticed when we first started our unit was the amount of noise it makes. This model is very loud. Those uncomfortable with higher volumes of noise should definitely avoid this product. We assume that the increased noise is coming from a high-powered motor. We found it to be powerful enough although the lower quality blades let it down. Multiple passes over the denser hair areas were necessary to get the clean cut or trim. The blades are sharp enough although the spacing between them is problematic. Those looking for a good stubble trim will not be pleased with this model at all.
We must say that we are very disappointed with this model made by Wahl. It is unusual to see such a low-quality product coming from a manufacturer with a reputation for making high-quality grooming devices. Overall, we were unhappy with the low performing blade head advertised as being very sharp and the extremely loud motor which is crippled with a poorly designed blade spacing.
We certainly cannot recommend this hybrid beard trimmer model and are saddened that its quality is affected by a low-price tag. To make matters worse, there are cheaper models available from different manufacturers which offer great quality and come with a bigger set of included accessories at a lower price than this model.
- Decent build quality and great ergonomics
- Powerful motor
- Nice set of included accessories
- High carbon steel blades
- Great battery endurance
- Can be used as both cordless and corded
- 3-year limited warranty
- Very loud during use
- Not so great trimming performance
- Fragile attachment holders

Pros and Cons of Cordless Beard Trimmers
It all comes down to your habits when choosing whether you require portability of a cordless or the practicality of the corded beard trimmers. Say you need a quick trim while you’re out or perhaps you like to carry your grooming kit with you at all times when out of the house. Then the cordless variants are the best choice for you. They allow almost identical power spec as their corded counterparts and give more freedom of movement when you need precise detailing work done on your facial hair.
Most of the cordless models come with plenty of battery endurance and they will easily last you for a decent number of shaving or trimming sessions. That is if your average grooming time is somewhere around 15 minutes. Even then, they require small amounts of time to get fully recharged so it all depends on your lifestyle and you daily routine.
The not so good side of owning a cordless beard trimmer is that you have to monitor the battery charge level if you tend not to leave it on the charging dock or cradle. It can be very frustrating to find out that the battery is empty exactly when you’re in a hurry to get a quick trim. Many models offer the possibility to be attached to the charging cord to recharge the battery and be used at the same time. Some models will not provide enough power for such use and if your cordless trimmer comes with a charging dock or a cradle then you will need to leave it there constantly after you finish using it.
When it comes to the strength of the motors they are virtually the same spec as their corded counterparts. We feel that the increased freedom of movement and the added portability at the same price makes cordless beard trimmers an excellent choice.
What to Look for When Choosing Cordless Trimmer
Before deciding to buy your new cordless facial hair grooming device there are certain things that you should avoid. This guide will save you the headaches from making the wrong choice.
Choose the models with good battery endurance and reasonable charging times. That’s right. You do not want to buy trimmers that do not last long without power and at the same time need more than 10 hours to recharge the battery back to 100 percent. Choose models which can be recharged and used at the same time. They will save you from frustration each time you might forget to recharge it after use. Avoid models that lose power in the combined recharge/use mode.
Because you will be using it most of the time of the cord, make sure that the model you’ve chosen has enough power.
Choosing a device with a powerful motor will ensure that you get a perfect trim since most of the complaints about the cordless hair and beard trimmers come from people who used models with weaker motors which are more energy efficient and designed for a longer battery life.
With the recent advances in the battery technology, your device doesn’t need a low power motor to work efficiently.
Make sure to read users opinions too to get a good sense of their experience with the model you are interested in.
Since the cordless models perform identical as the corded ones, you will surely enjoy the added portability of your new grooming device.
Our Verdict: Which One We Liked the Most?
Our choice of the best cordless beard trimmer comes down to the Philips Norelco Multigroom Series 3100 model. During our testing, we found it to offer great quality and a tough to beat feature set at the current asking price. In our opinion, this model performed so well and completed every trimming session effortlessly that we were confused about how can such a great all-rounder product come at an affordable price.
The most surprising fact was that we underestimated Philips seeing how some of the more well-known manufacturers were among the other competing models that we tested. Their products have great features too, however, they are more expensive than the Philips model and some of them do not offer the same generous level of included equipment.
The Philips 3100 model proved to be the most popular choice among plenty of users and seeing how much overwhelmingly positive feedback they give about it – it is well deserved. The endurance and longevity scores are rated with high marks too. The self-sharpening blades are a rare feature found in such a low-price product and we commend Philips for including it as standard. This model comes highly recommended for being the best performance for the money cordless trimmer currently available.
